What is Sliding-Scale Integrative Care?

Sliding-scale care is an essential part of our clinical model, supporting access to acupuncture, herbal medicine, and integrative care at Wild Rose Medicine.
Treatments take place in a shared, calm space and are offered on a sliding-scale, allowing patients to choose what they can afford within a set range.
Care is individualized and collaborative, with treatment plans that may include acupuncture, custom herbal formulations, nutrition, lifestyle and guidance. Our sliding-scale model allows patients to receive consistent care based on their needs and resources.
In addition to clinical care, Wild Rose Medicine offers classes and workshops that support health, self-care, and connection to plants, season, and community.

Words from Our Community

Experiences from those who have walked this path with us

Dr. Elena has caring and compassionately supported me through my 5 year cancer journey using acupuncture and massage while educating me with her professional healing information. Her awareness and kind attention to my needs has been extremely special to me and I am so very grateful to be under her care.

As someone who is resistant to traditional pharmaceuticals I found incorporating Elena's herbal blends into my daily life to give me much needed relief and grounding. I would recommend anyone to work with Elena as she is compassionate, extremely thoughtful and knowledgeable in her field of work.

I've been seeing Elena at Wild Rose since 2023, and she has been nothing short of fabulous. Whether I come in with specific concerns or simply for general health and immune support, she is incredibly thoughtful, attentive, and intuitive in her approach. She truly listens — about my body, my life, and what's going on — and tailors every treatment accordingly. Her space is welcoming, calming, and deeply restorative, and I always leave feeling healthier, happier, and more grounded.

Elena is a one of kind wholistic health practitioner who brings great knowledge of eastern medicine into a new way of approaching western medicine. For me she is better than almost any medical doctor I've met because she really listens to your health issues and then through great empathy and knowledge is determined to help you in her very unique, brilliant, and intuitive approach! Every time I have had a session with her I'm more balanced, happier and healthier!

Dr. Elena has an extraordinary ability to truly see you. She takes the time to understand where you are physically, emotionally, and energetically in that moment, and each session feels different because she is meeting you exactly where you are. After every treatment, I feel a clear shift. Along with her gifted ability to create individual tinctures, the care feels deeply supportive and thoughtfully tailored. Working with Dr. Elena has been grounding, affirming, and deeply restorative.

Dr. Elena brings a level of presence and intuition to her work that I have not experienced elsewhere. She takes the time to understand the full picture — body, mind, and fertility — and each session feels thoughtfully tailored to what I need in that moment. I consistently leave feeling calmer, nurtured, and more supported.

Healthcare That Honors Your Reality

Dr. Elena Roemer, Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, grew up in Tahoma, a small town on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe. While Tahoe is often seen as a luxury destination, her upbringing reflects a different truth — one shaped by the rhythms of a working-class family living paycheck to paycheck.
She knows firsthand that many long-time locals and community members are quietly navigating the high cost of living, and that market-rate acupuncture or herbal treatments can feel out of reach.

Common questions answered

Wild Rose Medicine is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and our sliding-scale model is designed to make regular care accessible to more people in our community. When you book a community acupuncture session, you'll choose a price within a set range based on what feels honest and possible for you. There's no income verification or paperwork — we trust you to select what works. This model allows us to keep our doors open to everyone while encouraging the consistent, ongoing care that leads to real results.
Before your appointment, you'll fill out an intake form so Dr. Elena can get a full picture of your health history and current concerns. Your first visit is an integrative medicine consultation — a chance for Elena to listen deeply, ask questions, and understand what's going on from a whole-person perspective. From there, she'll create a personalized treatment plan that may include acupuncture, a custom herbal formula, supplements, and lifestyle guidance. For the best results, she typically recommends an initial appointment followed by weekly acupuncture sessions and a supplement protocol for about three months, though this varies by condition.
Most people feel very little when the needles are placed — they're hair-thin, nothing like a medical needle. Once they're in, you'll likely feel a deep sense of relaxation, and many patients fall asleep during treatment. Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points on the body to encourage circulation, reduce inflammation, calm the nervous system, and support the body's natural ability to heal. Each point is carefully chosen based on your unique pattern — addressing not just symptoms but the root of what's creating imbalance. It's especially effective for pain, stress, anxiety, hormonal issues, and supporting recovery from illness or surgery.
Wild Rose Medicine doesn't bill insurance directly. However, Dr. Elena provides superbills — detailed receipts that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Many patients with out-of-network acupuncture benefits are able to recover a portion of their costs this way. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to see what your plan covers. Our sliding-scale pricing for community acupuncture is also designed to make care affordable with or without insurance coverage.
